Amy Morris

Amy Morris joined the AWFC Board in April 2018 in the role of Board Secretary and has since served as Vice President, now serving as President. Amy is also the Executive Director of the Vancouver Humane Society. Amy previously worked as the Manager of Public Policy and Outreach for the BC SPCA, working with animal industry stakeholders to find common ground to improve animal welfare. She thrives working on initiatives to strengthen animal protection legislation at the municipal, provincial and federal levels.

She started off by volunteering with hoarder and mill dogs and cats at the Montreal emergency shelter. This inspired her to write her thesis on dog breeder regulation for her Master’s of Public Policy from Simon Fraser University in 2013. Amy then served as Code secretary on the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association’s Code of Practice for Canadian Kennel Operations for six years and assisted with the update to the Code of Practice for Canadian Cattery Operations. Amy is most interested in professionalizing the field of animal policy, making animal welfare a key part of government decision-making processes. Her ‘little one’ Clover is the center of her world and they spend their free time playing with sticks in the forest in Squamish, B.C., the traditional territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw.
