Martyna Lagoda

BA, MSc, PhD

Dr. Martyna Lagoda is a passionate animal welfare scientist and zoologist at heart, dedicated to improving the lives of animals across species. She completed her academic training in Ireland, earning a B.A. in Zoology from Trinity College Dublin, an M.Sc. in Animal Behaviour and Welfare from Queen’s University Belfast, and a Ph.D. in Pig Welfare and Behaviour with Teagasc and the Institute of Genetics and Animal Biotechnology, Poland, investigating the effects of chronic stress on sow welfare, and the carry-over (prenatal) stress effects for offspring welfare. In 2023, Martyna moved to Canada to join the University of Saskatchewan as a researcher, where she continues to advance evidence-based approaches to promote meaningful, sustainable welfare improvements for farmed pigs.

Martyna lives and works on the traditional and ancestral territories of kisiskâciwan (Saskatchewan), homeland to the Indigenous peoples of the Cree, Dene, Dakota, Nakota, and Saulteaux peoples and the homeland of the Métis Nation.
